A day in the life of a Marketing & Communications Apprentice
Introduction
Hello, my name is Amelie, and I am a Marketing and Communications Apprentice here at Garden House Hospice Care. At the end of October 2022, I started my apprenticeship role, so here's a little bit about my experience so far!
Previous experience and first impressions
Coming into this role as a school leaver, I was unsure what to expect. I had previously worked part time in a supermarket and in a bakery, so starting a full-time office-based Apprenticeship was slightly daunting. However, by the end of my first week, my fears had already faded and I felt comfortable in trusting the process. Everybody was very friendly and more than happy to answer any questions that I had (and I had many!).
Now, nearly four months in, I feel as though I have settled into the role very nicely and am confident in the skills I have learnt so far. With the job being so versatile in terms of everyday tasks constantly differing from one to the next, I don't ever have a boring day at the office. Working at the Hospice has massively widened my knowledge of what a hospice is and palliative care as a whole. From exercise classes, competitions, trading, fundraising events to volunteer training, Compassionate Neighbours and the work in IPU; the list of services that the Hospice offers is vast and ever-growing.
Studying while working full time
As an apprentice, I am also working towards a Level 3 qualification in Marketing at the Cambridge School of Marketing. This means I spend one day of my working week studying. I am fairly new to the study side of the apprenticeship as it began at the beginning of January, but so far, I can confidently say the course has been set out in a flexible format that allows me to have a great balance between work and study. I am given documents to read, podcasts to listen to, videos to watch and data to analyse which means the studying continues to keep me engaged throughout the course.
Final message
If I had to quickly describe my experience at the Hospice, I would say that you truly do learn something new every day. The people I have met and the stories our community members share are absolutely wonderful and make me proud to work for Garden House Hospice Care. I am excited to see what happens and the lessons I will learn in the future within my role.
