Get muddy for the Hospice at our annual Muddy Mayhem event!

Muddy Mayhem is back for its eighth year on Sunday 23rd March. The 5km mud run will once again take place at Woodhall Estate, Watton-at-Stone, raising vital funds for Garden House Hospice Care.

Our highly anticipated event is designed to test both endurance and team spirit. It is open to participants of all abilities, from seasoned runners to groups and families looking for a fun and rewarding experience. There’s also a shorter Mini Mudder after the main event for 5-10 year olds to take part in.

This year, we've made changes to the route and introduced some brand new obstacles. Those taking part can expect river crossings and slippery inclines in addition to mud-caked hurdles and climbing frames - all in support of the Hospice.

Adam Brockett is Product and Events Lead at Garden House Hospice Care:

“Muddy Mayhem is one of the most exciting events in our calendar. We have hundreds of people taking part every year - we’ve previously had a team of muddy brides, a local rugby club, fitness groups, corporate teams and all sorts run the course. Many also participate in memory of a loved one who was cared for by the Hospice.

“No matter the reason, Muddy Mayhem offers the perfect opportunity for people to get active and have a lot of fun while helping raise essential funds for our services. We’ve set ourselves an ambitious fundraising target of £25,000 this year, which will only be possible with enough people taking part.”

Sheena Scaplehorn will be clambering her way through Muddy Mayhem in memory of her husband, Andy, who was cared for by the Hospice in 2021. Andy had previously taken part in the event himself, so Sheena said it was a 'no brainer' to gather a team to run in his memory.

Sheena said:

“When Andy was alive, I would never have done Muddy Mayhem as being caked in mud didn’t appeal to me one bit. But Andy loved doing things like that, so it seemed a no brainer to honour his memory while supporting the Hospice. There are 20-30 of us (his family and friends) who have formed a team called the 'Scaplegoats' who take part. It’s so exhilarating and there’s so much camaraderie from everyone to help you get around, plus you don’t have to be an athlete!

“The Hospice made Andy feel at ease; he was so comfortable and well looked after and able to finish his days with tranquillity. They helped him keep his dignity, especially in front of our children who were 13 and 16 at the time. We can’t thank Garden House Hospice Care enough and giving back in this way is the least we can do.”
