Get planning

Research: This is where you need to begin! Consider:

  • The type of event. What are your interests, or those of people you know? Do you know a DJ or a band who could lend their time?
  • The venue. There are lots of options, from village halls to hotels. Do you know someone who owns a pub or runs a community space who could donate it to you? Some venues may offer a discount if you tell them it's a charity event.
  • The date. Be careful not to clash with anything else that may restrict your audience.
  • Tickets and booking. Will you need to pre-sell tickets? What price will they be? Will you sell them online or in person?
  • Any help you need. Could you rope in the help of friends or family?

Engage: Get your friends, family and colleagues involved and remember to spread your word on your social media pages. Create posters and share them in your local community - some shops or businesses may display them for you, or you could pin them up at work. Be loud and proud! Shout about what you are doing. The more passionate you sound, the more this will rub off on others.

Ask: Sometimes its as easy as just asking. The number one reason people won't give money to your cause is that they are not asked.
