Charlie Chicks raises more than £18,000

Our annual Easter Fundraiser, Charlie Chicks, has smashed its fundraising target this year, raising over £18,000 in vital funds. More than 14,000 knitted chicks stuffed with Crème Eggs were sold in the local community.

We recently held an afternoon tea as a thank you to all our volunteers involved in the Charlie Chick production line. The final total was revealed to our supporters as they enjoyed tea and cake, and more knitting for next year’s campaign.

Claire Lunnon is Fundraising Co-Ordinator, Individuals and Community at the Hospice:

“With a highly successful Charlie Chick campaign this year, it was more important than ever to thank our volunteers by inviting them to the Hospice. We simply could not run the campaign without them.

“All their contributions make a difference from buying the wool, knitting or crocheting the chicks, sewing the eyes, ears, mouth, hats and scarves, stuffing the chicks with eggs, distributing them into the community, collecting the empty boxes, and counting the monies ??" they bring everything together.

“To complete the whole process of a single Charlie Chick takes around one hour. With over 14,000 hours of time given, this has saved the Hospice in the region of at least £25,000.”

Letchworth Ladies Circle is one of the community groups who help with the fundraiser every year:

“Anna and Sharon from our group had the privilege of attending the afternoon tea. It was lovely to be invited along to be thanked for the work we did as part of the Charlie Chicks campaign.”

We would also like to thank DLRC, a Letchworth-based regulatory company, for sponsoring the campaign and donating the thousands of Crème Eggs.
