Hospice physio shaves head to raise vital funds
Althea Steenberg, Rehab and Wellbeing Physiotherapist at the Hospice, recently set up her own sponsored head shave, raising £1,913! There was a great turnout on the day, with Althea being cheered on as she braved the shave.
It costs us £6.5 million a year to run our services, and we need to raise £9,700 every single day. Fundraising activities are key to ensuring the Hospice can continue supporting the local community, so when our very own Physiotherapist, Althea, decided to shave her head to raise funds, we made a big event of it with colleagues, family and service users turning up to watch.
Here's what Althea had to say just moments before the barber arrived:
"I have mixed feelings, but I’m mostly excited to be raising money for the Hospice, and to raise awareness of the work we do. Many people only associate the Hospice with end-of-life care, but the Rehab and Wellbeing team also offer services that help people with life-limiting conditions.
"Whether it's physical exercise, meditation or Tai chi, the team are here to help our service users by giving them the skills to cope in their daily lives. We provide specialist palliative care for patients, families and carers, in the setting of their choice, to help them have the best possible quality of life. So I decided to raise money for the Hospice by doing a sponsored head shave, to help towards raising the funds we need to continue providing much needed services in our local community.
