Upcycling Assistant

Garden House Hospice Care have a big ambition to become a leading preloved and sustainable retailer. To support with this vision, we are expanding our Upcycling department. We are looking for a dedicated and committed member staff to bring this to life. The Upcycling department will generate vital income for Garden House Hospice Care, enabling us to provide care for patients and their families across North Hertfordshire and Stevenage.
We are looking for someone with an eye for detail, good organisational skills and the ability to inspire and motivate volunteers. You will have experience in woodwork, upholstery, varnishing or painting, this role would suit a former woodwork teacher or similar. Working in collaboration with our Depot team and high street shops, you will be able to maximise the income from products by using the most profitable platform.
What will I be doing?
- day to day running of the upcycling workshop and managing and developing the team of volunteers
- upcycling items and driving sales to reach maximum revenue potential
- ordering supplies to keep the workshop well stocked
- maintain a high standard of organisation throughout the workshop
- seeking new opportunities to market the products, including organising promotion events and courses for people to learn new skills
- taking on commissions and upcycling the items to a customer brief
- managing the deliveries & collections of items and delivering an excellent standard of customer service
What skills will I need?
- experience in upcycling with a particular skill in either woodwork or upholstery
- be happy to train volunteers and run a course to pass these skills on
- experience in people management, including experience of working with and managing volunteers
- a creative flair and passion for customer service
- be confident working in a fast-paced environment
- proactive, driven and commercially aware
- IT skills with a knowledge of Excel / Word / Outlook packages and happy to learn our internal systems
- aspire to the Charity’s ethos & values
